Our journey began with solar-powered systems, evolving into sophisticated solar and LED street lighting solutions that illuminate remote, regional, and city areas across Australia.

Our quest for efficient battery power usage led us to embrace LED technology early on, leveraging its energy-saving benefits. This innovation swiftly positioned Pecan as a leading expert in LED street lighting systems and controls, evident nationwide in both solar and grid-connected applications.

Our Beginnings

In 1998, young entrepreneur Cameron Johnston, fresh out of Marketing Management with a Bachelor of Business degree, bought Street and Park Furniture. Working with local South Australian suppliers, he began incorporating more steel fabrication alongside the popular cast iron offerings. By 2006, business was booming. Johnston then purchased Rowlands Metalworks, a long-established sheet metal company in Magill, known for electrical cabinetry. With the formation of Pecan Lighting and the growth of both Street and Park Furniture and Rowlands Metalworks, Johnston sought a modern facility to house all three companies. In 2008, construction began on the Lonsdale manufacturing facility.

Still based in Lonsdale, Pecan Lighting, Rowlands Metalworks, and SPARK Furniture share a state-of-the-art production facility spanning four sites. In 2022, the group acquired Defence Coatings Systems, expanding further. Collectively known as Rowlands Group, the organization employs over 100 people locally and interstate.

Pecan Lighting takes pride in its skilled and dedicated team across sales, marketing, operations, and support. As a wholly Australian-owned group, the Johnston Group proudly supports local suppliers and operators throughout Australia.

At Pecan Lighting, we believe that Better Cities Begin at Illuminating Levels.
